Horror In Short: They Shall Pay With Rivers of Blood

Today we’re kicking off a short film fest leading up to the end of the year. Each day this week I’ll be posting either a short film for your viewing pleasure, or highlighting one that deserves some attention. Today’s entry is a short zombie film that has been floating around the net for a few months now, but one that certainly deserves a viewing if you haven’t yet checked it out. I’d like to give a shoutout to our friends at Send More Cops, for bringing this one to our attention. If you have seen this film before you know it kicks some major fuckin’ ass and what a veritable visual treat it is!
They Shall Pay With Rivers of Blood is the creative handiwork of Buck Anderson. It clocks in at roughly seven minutes, and is packed from beginning to end with grindhouse styled zombie action. Aside from insatiable zombies, the film tosses in an array of delectable grotesqueries from sequences of nasty flesh eating, to a samurai toting ninja that lops off heads with the cunning of a master butcher.
That being said, what makes They Shall Pay With Rivers of Blood an easy entry into this weeks round-up isn’t the zany action on display, since loads of low budget zombie films bring that in spades. Rather, it’s the high level of attention to detail – excellent camera work, great lighting, perfectly paced action, and a great soundtrack that kicks into high gear right when it’s needed most – that elevate this film above the countless other zombie flicks out there. Complementing all this is some top notch effect work from Buckshot Design and The Juggernaut. I’m tipping my hat to you guys because I rarely find a low budget short that has me hungry for more.
