Trailer and US Poster for ‘The Blackout’
by Marc Patterson
Halloween seems to be the high holiday of horrorphiles everywhere but personally I love Christmas. Thankfully for me, the sparkling joy of the Christmas season is nigh upon us once again. What better way to get in the spirit than for some Christmastime horror via a really cool trailer from an upcoming horror film, The Blackout. The Blackout is one of those dysfunctional family and neighbors meets hell and horrors from beyond type flicks that borrows some rather obvious motifs from the Feast franchise, yet seems to be a bit more restrained and in, shall we say, “good taste”.
The synopis is simple and straightforward: Directed by Robert David Sanders, when an apartment building’s lights go out mysteriously, all of the tenants put aside their problems and band together to get to the bottom of the city-wide blackout. Deep in the basement of the high-rise, a hideous breed of monster hatches and begins to wreak havoc. Everyone must find a way to kill the blood-thirsty creatures and survive the darkness before it destroys the world.
Yes, it’s another horror strikes Los Angeles and threatens the “world” flick, but hopefully you’ll agree with me after seeing the trailer that The Blackout looks like it has the potential to be a really fun horror flick. I’m a little concerned about the acting, but if the sound and scoring in the trailer carry over then paint me happy. As a partial disclaimer I have to come out and say that one of the things I tend NOT to like about the trailer is the reveal of monster on both the poster and within the trailer. I’m all about hinting at the lurking evil but ultimately saving that nasty bite for the big screen. C’est la vie.
As a post note, It would appear from their official blog that they’ve managed to sell the films overseas but have yet to land US distribution.
