Coffin Joe’s ‘Embodiment of Evil’ Picked Up by Synapse!

I have been biting at the bit to report this news item for a long damn time. I’ve been carefully following the every move of Embodiment of Evil, the third film in the official “Coffin Joe Trilogy” since it’s production. (No, Awakening the Beast, though widely claimed to have been the third film in that trilogy is not the actual third film. It just worked as a filler since decades have passed since the first two films were made. Only the devil knows when or if Embodiment would ever see the light of day.)
It was just last week that I was talking with a rep from an unnamed distribution company who was confident they had Embodiment of Evil in the bag for US distribution (Our fellow Brits the in UK have already seen this release on Blu-ray earlier this year). The title was included on a press release for another film that hit my desk from said company. When I asked for confirmation and further details I discovered the deal fell through. There were no details given on the who or why of it. Not even a direct quote saying the deal did indeed fall through. Just a hint that things were’t quite there yet, which in this biz we all know what that means. All I knew for sure was that whatever the case, someone was about to emerge the victor in the distribution wars! Well in a not so surprising twist Synapse has just announced via their Twitter feed that they just secured the rights to distribute the film and that 2010 will see both DVD and Blu-ray editions for the film hit the market. Now we can only hope that this lands into our homes for the early part of 2010.
Once we get more info from Synapse on actual date and specs we’ll pass it on. In the meantime… count me stoked!
