Cassie Hack, Meet Your Maker, Stephen Susco
by Marc Patterson
For fans of Cassie Hack it’s been a long and treacherous road getting her sweet comic ass onto the big screen. (I still maintain to my position that this would be a great role for Megan Fox). We never reported earlier that a guy by the name of Fredrik Bond was on board to direct the comic adaptation of Hack/Slash because frankly, the guy is a young director and this would be his first big feature project. Well, there is what appears to be a remake of The Host on his resume, but that is a different story altogether to be covered elsewhere at another date in time. But now there is some rather interesting news to report as Relativity has picked up Stephen Susco to write the script, or give a serious re-working to the current draft, since technically a script already exists. This is exciting on a variety of levels. Susco was the screenwriter for both The Grudge, and Grudge 2, and also did a knock up job on a lesser known Jack Ketchum adaptation Red. And if he hasn’t been busy enough in the genre he’s lined up projects that include The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3-D as well as Platinum Dune’s upcoming title The Butcherhouse Chronicles. (I know, it’s shocking when Platinum Dunes can make something original).
The Hack/Slash series revolves around the character of Cassie Hack, a sexy gal, with a trademark baseball bat and a penchant for offing monsters, referred to as “slashers” within the comic. She, along with a dark and mysterious friend named Vlad, travel the country hunting down these “slashers” and bringing them to an end one by one. It’s a revenge fueled story soaked with blood and mayhem.
We’ll be bringing you more updates on developments as they become available.
