Adam Green Returns for ‘Hatchet 2′, ‘Frozen’ Releases in February
by Britt Hayes
Big news day for Adam Green, writer/director of the 2006 slasher film, Hatchet. In an exclusive with Shock Til You Drop, Green says he’ll be back to write and direct Hatchet 2:
“It’s finally happening,” Green enthused. “It’s going to have double the body count, and Anchor Bay is being cool enough to allow me to make the sequel I want to make.”
The first Hatchet film starred Joel Moore (Dodgeball, Grandma’s Boy, the upcoming Avatar) as a guy whose friends drag him to New Orleans on Mardi Gras to get over a break up. They go on a haunted swamp tour, and soon find themselves lost in the wilderness, where all sorts of hacky slashy madness ensues. Kane Hodder (Jason fucking Voorhees, Friday the 13th parts VII-Space) stars as Victor Crowley, the titular hatchet man.
Green has already begun pre-production, and while there is little casting news in this early stage, Kane Hodder will most definitely return as Crowley. IMDB reports that Tony Todd will be returning as Reverend Zombie, as well.
Robert Pendergraft (whose resumé includes such gems as Dinocroc and Night of the Chupacabra, as well as the first Hatchet) will return to do the FX for Hatchet 2. Joel Moore will not return for the second film. As of the end of the first film he was missing an arm and presumed dead. Green is a stickler for practical effects, and bringing Moore back would mean using CG effects.
Green just finished production on Frozen, his next film which releases from Anchor Bay on February 10, 2010. Frozen stars Kevin Zegers (Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead), Shawn Ashmore (The Ruins, the upcoming Mother’s Day remake), and Emma Bell. The official plot from IMDB:
“Three skiers are stranded on a chairlift and forced to make life-or-death choices that prove more perilous than staying put and freezing to death.”
