Ti West Teams up with IFC for Original Web Series
by Marc Patterson
Starting on October 26th IFC will begin airing an original five web episode series entitled Dead & Lonely, which has been written, directed, and produced by Ti West (The House of the Devil, The Roost).
The series follows two characters Justin (Justin Rice) and Lee (Paige Stark) who meet via an internet dating site DateOrDie.com, but the relationship is complicated as one of the two turns out to be a vampire
From the official synopsis: Dead & Lonely brings the classic vampire love story to the modern Internet dating age. The series unfolds from both the predator and the victim’s perspective until the characters finally meet. In the vein of Let the Right One In the series focuses on the mundane reality of the day-to-day life of an immortal, while seeking to humanize her to the degree that she seems almost as desperate and lonely as the rest of modern society.
I have to admit, I’m not into vampires. I liked Let the Right One In, but beyond that I could probably take all the vampire films made to date and boil them down to less than a dozen that are even worth my sitting through again. That said, I’m going to watch this for one reason and that is to find out what Ti West has brought to the vampire mythos. You see, what I find particularly refreshing about Ti West’s directing style is that he’s incredibly hands on to the point of annoyance to those around him. I’ll be honest, at first his “artistic” tendencies in his approach to film rubbed me wrong in a Billy Walsh (Entourage) styled way. After watching The House of the Devil a handful of times, and talking to the guy I’ve come to appreciate his stubborn nature, and dedication to his craft. His slow burn style of filmmaking, heavily influenced by Polanski, is far more enjoyable to watch than much of the drivel pouring out of Hollywood studios. This web series from IFC Films will undoubtedly prove to be a great outlet to tell what looks to be an entertaining story.
