Last night The Reaper Awards were held, hosted by Home Media Magazine and Dread Central. This morning we hopped online to discover who the esteemed winners were and it looks like some rather deserving folks took home a “Grimmy”.

There were several standout awards that I was very happy to see have gone to the respective recipients. First, was Alien Raiders winning the Best Direct to Video Release award. Without a doubt it was a serious contender as the film was superbly crafted by Ben Rock and got much justified praise from horror fans all over the place. Ben being such a cool guy certainly helps that cause. It was a film you could really feel good about getting behind. Then there was the Hellraiser box set winning for best packaging. Without a doubt this package is a much coveted prize for any fan, and anyone who has one puts it on prominent display. Anchor Bay always does a superb job with their releases and this box set is the pinnacle of their achievements in the horror world.

Then there were the head scratchers. We’re kind of curious how [REC] was able to win in the best foreign/indie category and yet lose to Quarantine for best zombie. And Laid to Rest TIES with The Last House on the Left for best slasher, when The Last House on the Left wasn’t even a slasher? Hey, no award show has ever been without a head scratcher or two but geez…
