Neil Marshall will hop on the 3D bandwagon for Ghost House Pictures to direct Burst 3D.  According to Variety, Lionsgate has acquired distribution rights to Burst after distributing Marshall’s brilliant 2006 horror film, The Descent. Ghost House is run by partners Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert, who will also produce alongside co-founder Nathan Kahane, who will executive produce the project. The script by Gary Dauberman follows a group of travelers in a blizzard who start to spontaneously combust due to a “malevolent force”. Spontaneous human combustion and 3D seem like a no-brainer.

Marshall also wrote and directed the less-than-stellar post-apocalyptic film Doomsday. His latest directorial effort, Centurion, starring Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds), follows a group of Roman soldiers during a British invasion in 117 AD.

3D has seen a resurgence in the last year, with more and more films turning to the format, including horror hits like My Bloody Valentine 3D and The Final Destination. Personally, I’d love to see Marshall turn out another great horror film with or without the aid of 3D, after the atrocity that was Doomsday. The Descent is still one of the scarier films I’ve seen in recent years.
