According to Shock Til You Drop, Derek Mears confirmed at the Rock n’ Shock horror convention this past weekend that he will be joining the Robert Rodriguez-produced Predator sequel, titled Predators. It looks like Mears will be playing one of the many Predators in the film. Mears is best known for his latest role as Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th reboot for Platinum Dunes. While I personally liked the film and only found it to have minor flaws, our own Ben Bussey gave it a less-than-favorable review. Mears has also appeared in The Hills Have Eyes 2, and one of my favorite Masters of Horror entries, Pro-Life. Mears is a stunt man, and performs regularly with an improv comedy troupe. At this point, I kind of wish we could see him as a human in the Predators film.

Predators will take place on the Predator home planet, and follows a group of humans with Predator-approved warrior-like abilities, who the Predators kidnap and bring to their planet to hunt and kill. The idea is interesting enough, and I find I favor it over a flat-out remake, where Rodriguez would undoubtedly cast Rose McGowan as Dutch. Rodriguez is producing Predators for Troublemaker Studios, and Nimrod Antal (Kontroll, Vacancy) is directing. Filming has already begun in Hawaii, but the film will wrap up at the Troublemaker Studios lot in Austin.

Predators also stars Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Danny Trejo, and Alice Braga.
