‘Daybreakers’ Poster Unveiled

The MTV Movies Blog got the first look at the new poster for Daybreakers, a vampire story set in the near dystopian future, where a plague has turned most of the human population into vampires. Humans are now farmed for blood and are slowly becoming extinct. A vampire researcher named Edward Dalton, who refuses to drink human blood (there’s always one of those), believes he can discover a synthetic substitute that would let vampires and humans co-exist peacefully (a la True Blood). Daybreakers stars Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe, and Sam Neill (90′s douche, CHAOS REIGNS!, and Jurassic Park, in that order).

The poster looks interesting and Matrix-y, but I’m not quite sold yet.  The trailer is tense and exciting. Sam Neill plays the douche this time out, and Ethan Hawke doesn’t come off quite so pompous and greasy. Willem Dafoe plays a human who is part of a rebel group trying to rebuild humanity, and there’s talk of a cure to reverse the vampire plague. I love the scenes with the human farm from the poster. In the poster, it’s all computer manipulated, but in the film there seems to be a mix of practical set building and effects combined with CGI for the extensive shots. This movie looks absolutely stunning. I haven’t heard any early reviews of Daybreakers. The film releases in January of 2010, so we’ll get a look at it soon enough. The trailer also makes excellent use of Placebo’s “Running Up That Hill”. I always find I get more excited about a trailer when it has an amazing song choice backing it up.

Daybreakers is written and directed by Michael and Peter Spierig, the brother directing/writing/editing/producing team responsible for Undead and The Big Picture.

You can view the trailer at the Apple site, and check out the full poster below.
