Stunning Fantastic Fest Poster for Lars Von Trier’s ‘Antichrist’
By Marc Patterson
I love movie poster art. You see us post a lot of one-sheets not because we want to keep up with the other big sites that churn out every little bit of news, and not because a studio or PR agency expects us to lest they hold back a press pass or screener. I post so many because I’m a whore for good one-sheets and posters. My house would be covered with them if it were up to me. As a kid, long before I ever could dream of being allowed to watch horror films I would wander through the aisles of our local video store looking at the covers of the VHS tapes and gazing at the walls full of the latest releases and imagine the wonderful horrors that could be in store for me. Good poster art conjures up an emotional connection to a film. Sometimes the film lives up to the cover, and sometimes the cover is the best part of the film.
You can only imagine my delight when I caught wind of the new poster for Lars von Trier’s Antichrist, made exclusively for the Fantastic Fest showing of the film. I just have one thing to say… This poster is simply amazing. I covet it. I will have it.
While it certainly is less horrifying than some of those old VHS tape jackets it’s the kind of poster that edges itself more towards pure art, showcasing a mix of styles that while retaining echoes of a classic Rider Waite tarot deck, incorporates etchings, with a multi colored screenprint process. Simply put… it’s one of the most gorgeous posters I’ve seen for a horror film. Feast your eyes upon this beauty below.
