Paranormal Activity – Could it Truly Be the Scariest Film You’ll See This Year?
by Marc Patterson
Late yesterday Shock Til You Drop unveiled an exclusive first look at the one-sheet poster for Paranormal Activity, which is currently slated for a limited release on September 25th. (Check out the poster below).
From first time director Oren Peli, Paranormal Activity has already gained much notoriety within the horror community and has quite literally freaked out audiences wherever it’s been shown. It’s the one film this year that promises to scare the shit out of you, and this my folks is a damn good thing, even if I do approach it with a reluctant skepticism. For all intensive purposes it’s been a long damn time since anything has freaked me out in the cinema. If this film delivers even half the scares it’s hyped to promise, then I’ll gladly walk away a satisfied customer.
The film is a bit of Blair Witch with a Amityville Horror styled twist thrown in, all done up in an ultra low budget style that is intentionally employed for full dramatic effect. There’s not a lot that lies in premise to the film, and perhaps utter simplicity and a pure sense of creepiness rarely seen in today’s horror, is where the film succeeds. The story follows a young suburban couple that moves into an otherwise unsuspecting home. As they begin to experience freakish occurrences in the home they decide to conduct their own investigation and video record the activity. This is only the beginning of the nightmares in store for them. The film stars Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat.
Today we’re promised some rather huge announcements today from the films official Twitter feed: @TweetYourScream, so look for us to bring you news as it happens! Check out that poster and then below that see the current trailer. Mostly, keep it tuned in here as we’ll be bringing you our thoughts on this one from Fantastic Fest!
