New One-Sheet for Saw VI!
by Britt Hayes
That time is approaching – “If it’s Halloween, it’s Saw!” Yeah, it’s a cheesy gimmick, but it totally works for the franchise. Saw guarantees asses in seats every year, and I’ve been known to occasionally make an appearance. I haven’t seen the last two in the theaters, instead opting to wait for the DVD release the following January each year. It’s just such a quick turn around, and more convenient for me since everyone goes to see Saw, and the theater is often packed with unruly teenagers in skinny jeans, texting and sucking face while an old curmudgeon like me is trying to watch the fancy new moving picture. I really should start bringing a cane with me so I can poke these little parasites.
The plot for Saw VI follows Detective Hoffman (Costas Mandylor, the coolest name ever) after the death of Special Agent Strahm. With Strahm out of the way, Hoffman is now the successor to Jigsaw’s throne. But the FBI is closing in, and Hoffman has to set his latest game in motion pretty quick. Plot details seem pretty vague and underwhelming, but I think after III or IV, people stopped watching for the plot. Sad, because I really enjoy the ballad of ol’ Jigsaw. There is some excitement to be had, however, because not only is Tobin Bell in this entry (in some flashback, I’m sure. That guy was one busy motherfucker before he died, no?) , but Shawnee Smith reprises her role as Amanda Young. I was pretty sure that girl was dead as a doornail, but they never took the top of her skull off in the morgue, so we’ll see.
A new one-sheet was released this week, fixating on some sort of mechanism, with the tag line, “He helped me.” This, once again, underwhelms. But, it’s still Saw, and I’d be lying if I told you I’m not interested in seeing what happens now with this insanely over-saturated plot. Also, how is it that everyone involved in orchestrating Jigsaw’s game seems to be some sort of super-mechanic? I hardly know one person who is this handy.
