DVD Release Date for Park Chan-Wook’s Thirst
by Britt Hayes
After a very short turn in independent theaters, Park Chan-Wook’s latest film, Thirst, has gotten a DVD release date: November 17th. Chan-Wook is most noted for his films in the Vengeance trilogy: Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, and Sympath for Lady Vengeance. If you haven’t seen these films, and you have a Netflix account, all are available to watch instantly.
Thirst is the story of a priest who receives a blood transfusion to save his life; however, the transfusion comes with an interesting vampiric side effect which is only unleashed when he indulges in a torrid love affair. Thirst combines elements of eroticism and horror in a terrifying love story.
The film will be released in Region 1 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment under their Focus Features banner. According to the DVD Times:
“No extras are listed. The film is presented in anamorphic widescreen with Korean DD5.1 Surround audio and subtitles in English (burned in), English SDH, French and Spanish.”
Such a shame that no extras are listed at this time. That’s not to say there won’t be any, but this practice is typical with initial foreign releases in the US. It might be a year or so before we see a release with special features. Also of note: there is no current release date for a Blu-ray of Thirst. With a film as visually stunning as this, it comes as shocking that Universal has no current plans for a Blu-ray release. Even the cover art, below, is simply gorgeous.

It does not appear that this has been released on DVD to date. Is there an update on the status of this picture?
