According to Danielle Harris’ official Twitter feed, Miss Harris has been officially cast as Barbara in the upcoming 3-D re-make of Romero’s ‘Night of the Living Dead’.

The re-make, which is sure to be a stunningly horrific affair (and not in a good way) is being produced by Simon West Productions, and is being directed by Zebediah De Soto who co-wrote the script along with David R. Schwartz. According to a recent article in The Hollywood Reporter George Romero is completely uninvolved with this film.

De Soto’s intention with ‘Origins’ is to delve deeper into the character backstories and create what he has termed “an American-style anime.” De Soto continues to THR, “The aim of the process is to make tennis balls on a stick representing real people or monsters a thing of the past by allowing actors interact with CG elements as if they are tangible.” To do this De Soto and Schwartz have “created and designed a real-time effects system, known as ‘The Beast’, which allows filmmakers the ability to direct CG performances the same way they would direct real live actors.”

As interesting as this sounds I’m not convinced of anything aside from the fact that there is no need to go back and re-visit this story again. Even Romero himself has worn his franchise down through a constant barrage of diluted sequels that increasing suck with each release. He doesn’t need the help of outsiders to get that job done any further.

My honest opinion is that as much as we are fans of Danielle I really wish she had said no to this one. As always, we’ll bring you developments as they occur.
