Ali Larter to Return to Resident Evil Franchise

by Marc Patterson
I’m going to start this announcement with some straight up personal commentary, call it a confessional. I like Paul W.S. Anderson films. I really do. They’re flashy with plenty of well constructed action sequences and there’s little to no subtext, which means if you want to check your brain at the door and just enjoy a good film without having to think his are some of the best. Sure, that sounds like a backhanded compliment, but I really mean that with all sincerity. So I’m not the least bit disappointed that he’s returned to helm the fourth installment in the Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil: Afterlife. And even better? This one is in 3-D.
Yesterday some rather exciting news came along that Ali Larter will be returning to the franchise, reprising her role as Claire Redfield from Extinction. In Extinction Larter played a leader of a group of survivors running on their last leg before they meet Alice (Jovavich).
In an interview with Black Film Boris Kodjoe, (Surrogates), spills the beans on the casting, but also delved into the plot a bit:
“I play the leader of the survivors in LA. Milla Jovovich’s character, Alice, is roaming the world looking for survivors and she’s wound up in LA, which has been burning for three years. She comes across an LA jail surrounded be these half-dead, uhh…” Without actually coming out to use the Zed word he continues, “Yeah, they’re those monsters, what are they called? Anyway, she comes across the jail and there’s a couple of survivors and she lands on top of the roof and partners up with me to fight the guys that are coming after them. We’re trying to get all of the survivors out of the jail to safety. We’re starting next week, actually.”
Currently Resident Evil: Afterlife is slated for Summer 2010 release date.
