Halloween 3D Slated for Summer 2010
Right on the heels of an astounding opening weekend where guts, violence, and gore ruled the box office we get news from LA Times (via Icons of Fright) that Halloween 3D will be coming to a theater near you for the summer of 2010. That’s right, while Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 might have played second fiddle to the surprise hit The Final Destination, there are signs of life for the franchise that refuses to die.
What is particularly noteworthy is how the LA Times article pointedly shows that horror in 3D pulls a profit well over the standard box office release. The year started with a bang thanks to My Bloody Valentine in 3D, and continually shows a strong return for the studios in this channel.
The biggest news of the story comes at the end of the article where Weinstein tells the LA Times that Rob Zombie will not return to direct this third installment and that Dimension is currently in negotiations with an unnamed director. Weinstein declined to comment on who that might be at this time. Though according to the article this director will have a decidedly “different take” on the direction of the franchise. I suppose that’s due to the fact that Rob Zombie just isn’t that good of a filmmaker?
Listen folks, you know us. We’re going to keep bringing you the news as we find out more. I for one am glad that Zombie is out, and pretty psyched to hear that we’ll get to see Myers rip it up in 3D as his counterpart Jason did so many years ago. Speaking of which…
