Jack Frost was a mass murderer, boucing from town to town, blending in with the residents before slaughtering them and moving on. His downfall was when he began putting bits of his victims in pecan pies.
The story begins with a nice little credit roll to the voice of an adult male telling his young helium induced niece the legend of Jack Frost and then picks up with the killer being driven, in a blinding snowstorm, to the hoosegow to be executed. Things don’t go as planned, though, and Jack is on his evil way, but not before he’s covered with an acidic solution that melts his ass down to an element. Through a flashback, we learn how Jack was captured and how he swore revenge on the sheriff who brought him down.
Jack, in his new form, gets quickly back to work and we’re treated to a nice looking corpse-sicle. Then a snowman mysteriously shows up in the sheriff’s driveway. The sheriff’s wife suggests her son go put a face on
it. She holds up two of the biggest carrots I’ve ever laid my eyes on. Now, I’m guessing that one will be his nose….Maybe mom’s not getting her squeeze box squoze? Nonetheless, those carrots are real eye-peners. Maybe I’m reading a bit too much into it. Wait, there’s mom hungrily eyeing another pair of carrots! Not long after the kid adorns the snowman with a couple eyes, a smile & an extremely large nose, some local bully’s show up and threaten to knock the boy’s dick in the dirt. 2nd victim is denogginized by sled. Nice. To say this movie is effective is an understatement. In one of the earlier scenes, at the sight of little Ryan’s (the sheriffs kid) culinary skills, I had the overwhelming urge to concoct something similar in visual style, minus the marshmallows.
Eventually we arrive at the scene that initially sold me on this movie. It involves Shannon Elizabeth, a bathtub and rape. It’s not particularly titillating, the rape part I mean and there isn’t nudity other than a quick shot of her tail. But this is Shannon Elizabeth and I assumed that she wouldn’t want to be associated with such a cheesefest like this. Plus I was on a mini-obsession with her that began with “American Pie”. It didn’t hurt that I found this to be a very inexpensive DVD, either.
The movie has a cult following or so I’ve heard and in a time when cult followings are few and far between, I guess that’s reason enough to check it out. It tries to be funny & the laughs are seldom, but the music is well placed. Christmas songs & murder surprisingly go hand in hand. Who knew? So what do you get for your few schekels? Not much in the way of special features. Nothing really. It’s a bare bones release and I don’t know that you’ll ever find it any other way. I liked it though and while it’s not going to blow you away with awesome effects, there are some little things there I think you’ll like.
