Michael Myers, who as a young boy slashed his nubile sister to death, breaks free from the mental institution that has housed him for most of his life, and heads back to his hometown on a rampage of murder and destruction!  Horny teenagers everywhere are all fair game for this serial killing psycho who won’t stop until he’s put down.

Halloween, the film that undisputedly kick started the slasher craze of 80’s cinema, has seen multiple DVD releases over the past several years.  The real question is, what makes this release better than the rest, and why didn’t Anchor Bay wait just one more year for the 30th Anniversary to come around, and in the same move take advantage of the occasion to drop an HD version on us as well?

There’s no doubt about it, this latest release is truly the best looking, and best sounding, version to have been released… yet.  But how many releases do we need?  After four different DVD releases from Anchor Bay the selection field has been completely convoluted, and we are left hanging, scratching our heads in wonderment.  In year from now it’s going to be near to impossible for consumers to easily identify this version with any sort of ease.   Thank god for those tacky and totally useless O-cards.  (Buy the one with the 3-D O-card).

The real bottom line is this: despite a poorly planned and executed effort to effectively market this latest release to the masses, the audio and visual improvements in the film itself make this one the version to own.
