Five Hong Kong teenagers on vacation witness a gruesome car accident on their way back from an amusement park. Once home, one of the kids produces a strange book entitled “The Ten Encounters” which turns out to be a step-by-step guide on ghost hunting. Bored, the kids decide to experiment with the spirit world. But when the hungry ghosts show up, and one of the guys disappears, it stops being funny and starts getting scary…sort of.

Actually, The Eye 3 works way better as a straightforward comedy rather than a horror film. Along with referencing its two predecessors, it also spoofs them and throws in some over-the-top ridiculousness as well. Breakdancing ghosts, a possessed tongue, lethal halitosis and – of all things – killer farts make their way into the silly plot of this goofball flick. It’s definitely aimed at the teenage crowd, and maybe the long-haired, open mouthed, Ringu-esque ghosts will spook a roomful of fourteen year olds, but probably will have hardened horror fans rolling their already jaded eyes.

There’s some great visuals here, and some good acting from the young cast, but the story is very predictable and a tad on the dumb side. I’m still not sure if this was intentional or not but, though I laughed a few times, I mostly found it annoyingly juvenile.
