Your favorite uptight, arrogant asshole and medical genius – Dr. Herbert West – is back in this sequel to 1985’s splatteriffic shocker Re-Animator. And amazingly, it’s a goddamned great sequel!
It’s been eight months since the slaughter in the Miskatonic Medical School’s morgue and Herbie, along with his reluctant partner Dan, are back after completing a bloody residency in war torn South America. Dan is growing increasingly disgusted and disillusioned with Herbie’s experiments and announces his plans to move out and go on with his life. But Herbie manages to seduce him back…with the heart of Dan’s dead girlfriend, Meg Halsey! Soon, Herbie is collecting the finest female body parts that the morgue has to offer. But can he complete his work and bring the Bride to life before the head of Dr. Carl Hill comes seeking revenge?
It may not flow as smoothly as the original, and the script lacks coherence at times, but honest to God, this sequel is kickass fun! There’s blood, boobs, carnage galore! Jeffrey Combs slips easily back into the role of nerdy Herbie, a man obsessed with his own brilliance who seems to spend all of his free time creating “pets” out of fingers, eyeballs and severed legs. The humor is wickedly dark and contains the same over-the-top ridiculousness that made the original so weirdly charming.
Alas, there’s no heads giving head in this one, but Bride Of Re-Animator is such a messy, goofy, gory, spoofy handful of gross-out fun that you won’t really notice.
